Overview

Blood magic is one of Valheim's character skills, tracked under the internal ID Blood magic. Damage, Eitr and health drain when using Blood magic.

Experience is gained at 0.75 per skeleton hitting a creature, 1 per shield breaking from damage.

At max level (100) it grants +200% damage and knockback, +250% protection, -33% eitr usage, -33% health usage.

Adjust your level from the console with raiseskill "Blood magic" 10 to add 10 points, or resetskill "Blood magic" to wipe it back to 0.

Leveling & Death Penalty

Every Valheim skill ranges from level 0 to 100, and its bonus grows as the level climbs — the +200% damage and knockback, +250% protection, -33% eitr usage, -33% health usage above is the full value you reach at level 100. Blood magic earns experience at 0.75 per skeleton hitting a creature, 1 per shield breaking from damage, so it climbs fastest when you use it deliberately.

Dying is the catch: each death drains roughly 5% of your level in every skill, Blood magic included, so a hard-won level erodes quickly on a dangerous run. To claw it back without the grind, run raiseskill "Blood magic" 10 — that adds ten levels at once, and you can pass any amount (or a negative number to lower it). Prefer a clean slate? resetskill "Blood magic" wipes the skill back to 0.

About
Blood magic is a skill and a weapon class in Valheim which was added in the Mistlands update. As one of the two types of Magic, it affects the amount of damage dealt by blood magic summons, the amount of Eitr used to cast blood magic, the amount of health drained by casting blood magic, and various other factors. At blood magic level 0, the base values for health drain, and eitr are used. At level 100, health drain and eitr usage are each reduced by 1/3 of their respective base values. The damage dealt by creatures summons with blood magic weapons is also affected by skill level, with the only example so far (the Dead raiser) ranging from 100% damage at blood magic 0 to 300% damage at level 100. Blood magic skill also affects the maximum amount of damage which can be absorbed by the Magic Barrier produced by the Staff of protection, with a base value of 200 damage at level 0, increasing by 5 per level to a maximum of 700 damage at level 100.
