How to Spawn Bosses in Valheim

Spawn commands for every Valheim boss with their character IDs, biome notes, and difficulty considerations.

Published 7 min read

Every Valheim boss can be summoned with the spawn command — useful for testing builds, farming boss-specific materials, or replaying a fight without rebuilding the summoning altar. This guide covers the spawn command for each boss, the biome they belong to, and what to know before you fight one.

These commands require cheats. If you haven't enabled them yet, see how to open the console.

How boss spawning works

Bosses spawn with the same syntax as any creature:

A few specifics for bosses:

  • Star levels do work on bosses. spawn Eikthyr 1 3 spawns a 2-star Eikthyr with significantly higher HP and damage. Use sparingly.
  • Spawning a boss does NOT set its global key. If you kill a spawned boss, the progression flag (e.g. defeated_eikthyr) is still set just like normal.
  • Bosses respect biome behavior. Spawning Moder outside the Mountains works, but its weather effects (snow, frost breath) are tied to its abilities, not the biome.

Boss spawn commands

Eikthyr — Meadows

The first boss, summoned with two deer trophies at the starting stone circle. Drops Hard Antler for the antler pickaxe. Full Eikthyr reference.

The Elder — Black Forest

The Elder uses the internal ID gd_king (an early dev codename). Summoned with three Ancient Seeds at a stone rune circle in the Black Forest. Drops the Swamp Key, required to enter Sunken Crypts. Full Elder reference.

Bonemass — Swamp

Summoned with ten Withered Bones at a Bonemass altar in the Swamp. Drops Wishbone, which lets you locate buried treasure and silver. Hits hard with blunt damage; bring mead. Full Bonemass reference.

Moder — Mountains

Moder uses the internal ID Dragon. Summoned with three Dragon Eggs at a Moder altar atop a mountain. Drops the Dragon Tear, required to craft the Artisan Table. Fight in two phases: ground and flying.

Yagluth — Plains

Yagluth's internal ID is GoblinKing. Summoned with five Fuling Totems at a Yagluth altar in the Plains. Drops Yagluth Trophy, used to craft the Spirit damage infusions. Full Yagluth reference.

The Queen — Mistlands

The Queen's internal ID is SeekerQueen. Summoned in the Mistlands by placing a Sealbreaker on the marker inside an Infested Mine. Drops the Queen Drop and unlocks the next tier of progression.

Fader — Ashlands

The most recent boss as of the Ashlands update. Found in the Ashlands biome. Drops materials for end-game crafting. Note: spawn only works if the Ashlands content is enabled in your install.

Spawning multiple bosses

Adding an amount spawns multiple of the same boss. They share aggression and stack damage:

Three Bonemasses at once is not a fight, it's a death sentence. Useful only for testing how AoE abilities scale.

Star-level bosses

Bosses respect star levels just like other creatures:

Spawns one 1-star Eikthyr. Each star roughly doubles HP and damage. 2-star (level 3) bosses are intended as a personal challenge mode — drops scale up too.

Resetting a defeated boss

Killing a boss sets a global key that locks certain progression gates. To re-fight a boss on a "fresh" save:

Replace defeated_eikthyr with the appropriate key: defeated_gdking, defeated_bonemass, defeated_dragon, defeated_goblinking, defeated_queen. See all global keys for the complete list.
