Fishing bait is consumed when casting a Fishing rod — one bait per cast. It is sold by Haldor the trader and (in newer updates) by Hildir, providing the essential consumable for fishing.

Fishing bait is a miscellaneous item in Valheim. Its in-game item ID is FishingBait, which you can drop into the console with spawn FishingBait to give yourself one — append a number like spawn FishingBait 50 to spawn a stack.
